After a collision not far from the Crestwood train station, two cars went into the Bronx River. The female drivers of both vehicles were helped to shore following the accident. Both drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for treatment. The car accident occurred in the morning hours just south of Exit 8.
After the crash, a red SUV landed on the river bank resting in shallow water on one side. The other car, a gold convertible, landed in the middle of the river and was submerged up to the windows. A public works employee who arrived at the scene soon after the accident rescued the driver of the SUV by pulling the door free for the driver, who was unable to open it from the inside. The driver of the convertible was able to climb out through the window of her car and was found holding onto the roof until Westchester County police officers were able to throw her a rope and help her to safety.
A lane on the northbound parkway was temporarily closed after the accident. Investigations in to the cause of the accident are still underway. According to police reports, it is being presumed that one of the cars involved in the accident drove into the other's lane and caused the crash.
Negligence while driving is one of the major causes of accidents. Negligent driving can cause drivers lose control of their vehicles and can result in accidents. Many accidents lead to serious injuries that result in partial or permanent disabilities or even fatalities. The law provides that innocent accident victims can sue for damages they suffer from the insurers of the negligent driver.
All monetary losses including medical expenses, lost wages and cost of repairs are the responsibility of the negligent parties. Liability rests with the negligent driver for compensation. However, one should not forget that no amount of monetary compensation could compensate for the loss of a loved one in a road accident.
